From November 10–12, the SITES Secretariat, Station Managers, Thematic Program Leads, and representatives from all SITES stations gathered in Umeå for a three-day meeting dedicated to collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strategic planning.
The meeting opened with updates from the nine SITES research stations, highlighting ongoing projects, recent developments, and future plans across the stations.
The first day continued with a symposium featuring researchers who use the SITES infrastructure. Their presentations showcased the remarkable breadth of ecosystem science supported by SITES.
Throughout the second day, participants explored a variety of topics, including Hands-on sessions demonstrating the functionality of the SITES Data Portal and discussing ways to make it even more user-friendly. Moreover, participants engaged in talks highlighting ongoing collaborations and progress within the thematic programs. The discussions and presentations sparked many new ideas on how to strengthen our infrastructure and continue expanding SITES’ role in supporting long-term ecosystem research.
The third day began with SITES Director Marcus Wallin presenting a timeline outlining the next steps for the network in the coming years. In the afternoon, participants visited SITES Röbäcksdalen, where station staff guided the group through ongoing research activities and demonstrated equipment used within the SITES Water and SITES Spectral thematic programs.
A heartfelt thank you to all participants for contributing to an inspiring and productive meeting!
